Things to Know before installing Kali Linux on your PC

Kali Linux has become one safest platform for advanced security networks. That we gonna talk about its several reasons. Kali Linux’s new version included new professional and modern penetration testing tools. So, read every step below to know before installing it on your PC.

• The first one based on the origin Kali Linux is the earlier replacement with BackTrak. BackTrack was one of the most powerful testing tools based on Knoppix Linux.
• Kali Linux is a fully functional operating system that builds to use by everyone. It usually used and installed for those who are working on an information security company. Each of the tools is professionally using by Ethical hackers, and by home users. This is entirely hacking tools that can be used as a traditional Kali Linux.
• However, you can install traditional Kali Linux X86 and X64, and ARM platforms. As above I mentioned Kali Linux as an open-source platform. And the ISO image is ready for you to download from its official site. You can download and install it on VMware Workstation, or VirtualBox platform. Or simply you can Dual Boot Kali Linux with Windows 10 on a single SSD/HDD. But for having a better performance I recommend you to choose SSD.
• Installing Kali Linux is pretty easy, as you have multiple ways of installation options. Before installing on a PC you have to prepare a Bootable USB drive.
• For installing Kali Linux on a PC you need at least 4GB of RAM.
• AT least you have a hard disk capacity of 30GB.

Download Kali Linux

For downloading the Kali Linux official image open its official site. Then open the download window and choose your recommended OS from there and download it. Therefore, I wanted to install Kali Linux on my laptop then I have to select the installer ISO file.

Create a Bootable USB Drive for Kali Linux

There are several methods to create a Bootable USB drive for Kali Linux. Such us running the Command prompt and applying some codes. Or the other one is using the Power ISO. But as I have experienced the best option is Rufus. If you don’t know how to do that then follow the below picture guide. And the USB drive needed is 8GB.

Step 1. Open your browser type Rufus press enter, once it appeared then download it.

Step 2. Once the Rufus downloaded Right-click on setup and Run As Administrator.

Step 3. When the Rufus window launched click on Select.

Step 4. After clicking select another window will open, there you have to select the Kali Linux ISO image. When it selected click Open.

Step 5. Once the ISO file inserted, be sure that your Rufus setting should as a below screenshot settings.

Step 6. Under format, options type a name for the Volume label. And finally, everything is ready, click the Start button.

Step 7. Be sure that your computer is connected to the internet. Because after pressing the start option you will need some required file to be downloaded online from the internet. If you agree then click “YES”.

Step 8. The image you have selected is an “ISOHybrid” image. This means it can be written either in ISO image (File Copy) mode or DD image (Disk Image) mode. Rufus recommends using the iSO image mode So that you always have full access to the drive after writing. However, if you encounter issues during boot, you can try writing this image again in DD image mode. Select the second option Write in DD image mode and click OK.

• Now, wait until it should create a Bootable USB drive of Kali Linux.

Install Kali Linux 2020 on a Laptop PC

Everything is up and ready, therefore, plugin the created bootable USB drive to your laptop. Then restart it, once restarted there you don’t need to press the Boot menu key. Because it will automatically detect the USB drive.

Step 1. At the first screen when it detected the USB drive, then select the “Graphical Install” or “Install” and press enter.

Step 2. Wait for the black screen until it should bypass.

Step 3. In the welcome wizard select your internal language and click continue.

Step 4. Select your location or country, the selected location will be used to set your time zone and also, for example, o help select the system locally. Normally this should be the country where you live. After selecting your country click continue.

Step 5. Now configure your keyboard layout and click continue.

Step 6. Wait while it should detect and mount installation media, Load installer components from install media, Configure the network.

Step 7. Please enter the hostname for this system, the hostname is a single word that identifies your system to the network. Simply, you can type your hostname also, but I leave this as a default, Kali and click continue.

Step 8. Enter your domain name, the domain name is a part of your internet address to the right of your hostname. Once you typed any name simply click continue.

Step 9. Please enter the real name of this user. This information will be used for instance as default origin for emails sent by this user as well as any program which displays or uses the user’s real name. Your full name is a reasonable choice. Usually, the Username will be taken from the domain name automatically.

Step 10. Set up a user password and click continue.

Step 11. Set up a password for user name, a good password contains a mixture of letters, numbers, punctuation, and should be changed to intervals. When it’s done click continue.

Step 12. Wait here until it should load the partition disk.

Step 13. The installer can guide you through partitioning a disk (using different standard schemes)or, if you prefer, you can do it, manually. With guided partitioning, you will still have a chance later to review and customize the results. Therefore, you have to select Guided – use the entire disk and click continue.

Step 14. In this step, it will choose by default and click continue.

Step 15. Select the partition method, in case, you have to select Separate/ home partition.

Step 16. Now select the “Finish partitioning and write changes to disk” option and click continue.

Step 17. Select YES and click continue. On the other hand, If you continue, the changes listed below will be written to the disks. Otherwise, you will be able to make further changes manually.

Step 18. Now, wait until it should install the base system.

Step 19. If you need to use an HTTP proxy to access the outside world, enter the proxy information here. Otherwise, leave this blank.

Step 20. Here select Ignore option and click continue.

Step 21. In this step, select the software which you want to install on Kali Linux.

• Wait while it should install the select software.
• Install the GRUB Bootloader on Kali Linux.
• Select the YES option and click continue.
• Now select the place where you want to install the GRUB Bootloader and click continue.
• Wait until it should finish the installation.
• Once the installation completed then select the Kali Linux and hit the enter key.

Congrats! Kali Linux is being successfully installed on a Laptop PC. Go ahead and install the other required files.
