We are expecting new hardware updates from Apple but now we will talk about macOS Big Sur or macOS 2020. First of all, we need to know about the name of macOS 2020. This year’s name of the new macOS was taken after the coastal region of Big Sur in the Central Coast of California. Big is a beautiful Place rugged stretch of California’s central coast between Carmel and San Simeon. And macOS Big Sur is also as beautiful as Big Sur, California.
Big Sur has wonderful and new features. And some of the biggest updates in Big Sur are new Control Center, Notification Center, Safari, Messages, Maps, and many other huge changes. As Apple limits the number and models of supported Macs that are eligible to install macOS Big Sur. - 2015 and later MacBook
- 2013 and later MacBook Air
- Late 2013 and later MacBook Pro
- 2014 and later iMac

And Accordingly, the following models capable of running macOS Catalina will not be able to be upgraded to macOS Big Sur:
- 2012 and Early 2013 MacBook Pro
- 2012 MacBook Air
- 2012 and 2013 iMac
- 2012 Mac mini
Don’t worry this by no means doesn’t apply to us. Means this list and policy only applies to those who are installing on Mac not PCs and since we are installing it on VMware or even VirtualBox, it doesn’t applies and you can install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC regardless of which PC and which version of Windows you have as long as you follow the steps correctly.
How to Install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC
All right! So the macOS Big Sur is there, even though it’s not completely out yet, despite that, it’s pretty safe to install and try it out. With that said, who doesn’t want to hands on it? So the answer is definitely everyone would. So in order to install it, what supposed and what’s typical is to find or get a Mac from wherever you could and then download Big Sur and start adapting it which is also not as easy as installing a full version of another macOS.
From this perspective, everything seems fine like rainbows and sunshine but actually it isn’t. Particularly, it’s fine with Mac but the thing which isn’t very typical and controversial is installing macOS Big Sur or previous versions on Windows. Long story short, despite the thing that Apple decided to leave Intel, it never does mean that the Hackintosh or installing macOS on Windows would die. It simply won’t. In fact, this might take a few more steps to install other than installing older versions or even it mightn’t, it isn’t confirmed yet. So let’s get started with how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
Step one – Create or Download macOS Big Sur ISO
Regardless of which version of macOS you want to install even if it’s not macOS, you need the installer file first. The same is with this. Now for installing macOS Big Sur, you need the macOS Big Sur ISO. While it’s not completely out yet, still you can download it from Apple’s developer program. But unfortunately, that’s not the correct format of the installer file we would like to install. However, the file you would get from Apple’s website will be macOS Developer Beta Access Utility.
Once you’ve that, you will open and install it which will then download macOS Big Sur but also that would not be the ISO file once it’s completed. It will be the .DMG file which is only usable within Mac. Since we’re installing Big Sur on Windows, it will be of no use so in this case, we will need to convert it.
That’s the case for creating and downloading it yourself, however, for downloading, it’s not a tiny bit like that. Means it’s pretty easy and straightforward. The reason it’s pretty straightforward is because we have already done the heavy work and it doesn’t require more work so just download it and it’s ready to use.

That’s why more and more users are now trying to get macOS from outside of the App Store. Now we’ll go ahead and go for how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
With that behind, our next move will be downloading and installing VMware Workstation or Player. Choose one of them as there’s no huge difference from them and you’ll fairly get what’s important.

To do it, locate to the machine files where you had specified to store. If you didn’t choose a place to store, it is by default stored in Document > Virtual Machine.
Once you’re there, right-click on the macOS Big Sur beta.vmx which ends up with .vmx and open it with Notepad. If the Notepad isn’t there, simply, click on “Look for another app on this PC” and find Notepad from the C:/ drive. You can also open it with Sublime text, Notepad+ or any other text editor.

Last Step – Install VMware Tools on macOS Big Sur
Once again congrats on making it and we are so glad for you. Onething very common for those who have installed and used macOS before is that it isn’t possible to change the screen resolution. Like if you expand it, it actually won’t be responsive and it will remain as the same screen size as it is installed though. In order to make the full-screen resolution, we will need to install VMware Tools. Don’t worry, we will provide not only the file but also the steps to install it very easily and without headache. Not to worry, it’s a part of the installation of how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
So before we head into it, I’ll try to cover what’s VMware Tools in a quick not long and what does it do and how it enhances a machine.
What is VMware Tools
VMware Tools is a set or we can also call collection of tools combined or merged into one tool called VMware Tools which does a handful of things and also enhances the overall speed and performance of the machine. Aside from it, whenever you install an operating system like Windows, we definitely need to install drivers and in some point, sometimes, it doesn’t even have ethernet driver so we will need to install to use it or maybe even it’s sometimes not possible to use it without.
But that’s not the case here because we can use it but it would be definitely far much better. With VMware, it’s similar to that. So what we do in here is we will install VMware Tools which comes with VMware itself without the need to download it. But sometimes it isn’t like that, so you will need to download it but its not a big issue and also not the installation is.
The VMware Tools provides a set of features, things and improvements that includes but are not limited to, screen resolution, sound, network, graphics, speed, drag, and drop more. From here, we will move into install VMware Tools on macOS Big Sur.
First, without doing anything, from the top, click on the Apple logo and click Shut Down. Then again Shut down when the pop up appears on the screen.

Allow
When it prompted you to restart, simply click Not Now then close the settings window.

Close Security Privacy window
Lastly, click Restart on the VMware Tools wizard and that’s all to there it is.

Restart
After restarting, if the error pops up again like this, you may reinstall the VMware Tools with the above steps, so it will work perfectly fine.

Reinstall VMware Tools
Once the machine is up, you will notice the screen that will be responsive and very smooth. After you have logged in, click on the full-screen icon and it should take you to the full screen without any problem.

And here we have the most beautiful and most gorgeous operating system with its wallpaper with us. To check the size of your screen, head over to the Apple icon from the top left corner, and select System details. Then it will appear then click on Displays.
