This year’s name of the new macOS was taken after the coastal region of Big Sur in the Central Coast of California. Don’t worry this by no means doesn’t apply to us. Means this list and policy only applies to those who are installing on Mac not PCs and since we are installing it on VMware or even VirtualBox, it doesn’t applies and you can install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC regardless of which PC and which version of Windows you have as long as you follow the steps correctly.
How to Install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC
All right! So the macOS Big Sur is there, even though it’s not completely out yet, despite that, it’s pretty safe to install and try it out. With that said, who doesn’t want to hands on it? So the answer is definitely everyone would. So in order to install it, what supposed and what’s typical is to find or get a Mac from wherever you could and then download Big Sur and start adapting it which is also not as easy as installing a full version of another macOS.
From this perspective, everything seems fine like rainbows and sunshine but actually it isn’t. Particularly, it’s fine with Mac but the thing which isn’t very typical and controversial is installing macOS Big Sur or previous versions on Windows. Long story short, despite the thing that Apple decided to leave Intel, it never does mean that the Hackintosh or installing macOS on Windows would die. It simply won’t. In fact, this might take a few more steps to install other than installing older versions or even it mightn’t, it isn’t confirmed yet. So let’s get started with how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
Step one – Create or Download macOS Big Sur ISO
Regardless of which version of macOS you want to install even if it’s not macOS, you need the installer file first. The same is with this. Now for installing macOS Big Sur, you need the macOS Big Sur ISO. While it’s not completely out yet, still you can download it from Apple’s developer program. But unfortunately, that’s not the correct format of the installer file we would like to install. However, the file you would get from Apple’s website will be macOS Developer Beta Access Utility.
Once you’ve that, you will open and install it which will then download macOS Big Sur but also that would not be the ISO file once it’s completed. It will be the .DMG file which is only usable within Mac. Since we’re installing Big Sur on Windows, it will be of no use so in this case, we will need to convert it.
That’s the case for creating and downloading it yourself, however, for downloading, it’s not a tiny bit like that. Means it’s pretty easy and straightforward. The reason it’s pretty straightforward is because we have already done the heavy work and it doesn’t require more work so just download it and it’s ready to use.
macOS Big Sur Beta 11.0 Developer Beta 2 (20A4300b) July 7, 2020
Apple tries its best to provide the most comfortable way to let users download and install Big Sur easily. But that’s neither easy and Apple has failed to do. That’s why more and more users are now trying to get macOS from outside of the App Store. No worries, for you, we have done a better job than Apple by not only listening but also providing the valuable content you deserve. Here’s the macOS Big Sur ISO latest version.
Step Two – Install VMware Workstation Player on Windows
With that said, installing Big Sur takes more than just a few clicks. For this procedure, we will need a number of things and the first and foremost we will need is VMware Workstation or Player. Unlike before, this time, we will download, install, and use VMware Player which is fairly free and easy to use. It is not only importantly free but also has almost the same features and things except a few minor changes and things which don’t affect the usage or performance or anything else of the machine. Now we’ll go ahead and go for how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
With that behind, our next move will be downloading and installing VMware Workstation or Player. Choose one of them as there’s no huge difference from them and you’ll fairly get what’s important.
Once you’ve it in your hands, you can now launch the installation file.
After its up, proceed with the installation as simple as it looks like.
Once it’s finished, let it open and click on Finish.
The VMware is now installed and what’s remaining to do is more than just how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
Step Three – Install & Run Unlocker for VMware
Just like its name, an unlocker is what unlocks something and in this case, which we have mentioned for VMware, it is a kind of unlocker that specifically unlocks VMware and let us install any version of macOS on VMware. In other words, it let us install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC by providing the option and as well as some other options and features. That is possible only with this specific unlocker that removes the limitation of what we can do on VMware.
While we’ve done it previously and thoroughly, for those who don’t know or haven’t done before, we will provide the link. If you’re wondering why we aren’t doing here, it’s because it’s a bit longer and will make this article quite long though it’s already have been a little long now. So here’s how to download and install macOS Unlocker. Just do it!
In short, after you’ve downloaded, open it and right-click on win-install.cmd and Run as administrator.
Note: Before accomplishing with this, make sure you close VMware otherwise it will likely fail.
After it’s done, you can move on to the next step of how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
Step Four – Create A Brand New Virtual Machine
In this step, after you’re done installing unlocker, you’ve come half away through in. From this part, we’ll move on with creating, setting and installing the virtual machine. Now we will first create the virtual machine where we will specify most of the settings and things, and once we have accomplished with it. By no means, it will take us to the next step. So let’s start with how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
Fire up VMware Player and click on Create A New Virtual Machine.
On this window, select I will install the operating system later and click Next.
In this step, select Apple Mac OS X and choose 10.16 from the drop-down menu and click Next.
The next window should be there now, so choose a name like macOS Big Sur and choose a solid location where it would be safe and known to you. Note that you’ll need to edit it afterward so make sure you store it in a known place.
Now for the hard disk, we recommend assigning 100GB or more, not less than that. From the bottom select the one which says Store virtual disk as a single file. It will be easier to store and understand. At the end, click on Next.
And here it comes to the ending point, no need to make any changes just Finish it. If you want to change something, just hit Customize or go back.
Step Five – Set up The Virtual Machine Settings
Coming to the next point, and as well as one of the most simple but important part is to set up the virtual machine settings. After you’ve done those steps which should have gone successful, it’s now time to tweak the machine settings. Without this step, which mightn’t seem as important as it should, you will certainly end up without installation, so here we go. This comes after we have install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
Once the machine is created, click Edit Virtual Machine Settings.
Then from the first Memory tab, increase the amount of memory to 50% of your maximum computer’s memory. By maximum, what I mean is that you should increase the memory to the most of what your computer has. It should be at least 4GB or above that.
The same should be done with processors. If your computer has 8 cores, assign at least 4 of it which would be 50%. If your computer has more, so you should definitely assign more because it will provide a smoother and more reliable experience.
Next up, click on the CD/DVD tab and click on Browse and choose macOS Big Sur ISO.
That done, head to the next tab which is USB Controller, and there select USB 3.0 and click OK. The sound and display can be let by default.
Step Six – Modify Big Sur’s VMX File
Great on making this up to here. You’re just a needle away from the installation.
Just like we said in the previous step, in this step, we’ll modify the Big Sur’s VMX (Virtual Machine Configuration File) file and edit it. To do it, locate to the machine files where you had specified to store. If you didn’t choose a place to store, it is by default stored in Document > Virtual Machine.
Once you’re there, right-click on the macOS Big Sur beta.vmx which ends up with .vmx and open it with Notepad. If the Notepad isn’t there, simply, click on “Look for another app on this PC” and find Notepad from the C:/ drive. You can also open it with Sublime text, Notepad+ or any other text editor.
After its up, now scroll to the very end of the command and insert the commands there. It should look like this.
smbios.reflectHost = "TRUE" hw.model = "MacBookPro14,3" board-id = "Mac-551B86E5744E2388" smc.version = "0"

Last Step – Install VMware Tools on macOS Big Sur
Once again congrats on making it and we are so glad for you. Onething very common for those who have installed and used macOS before is that it isn’t possible to change the screen resolution. Like if you expand it, it actually won’t be responsive and it will remain as the same screen size as it is installed though. In order to make the full-screen resolution, we will need to install VMware Tools. Don’t worry, we will provide not only the file but also the steps to install it very easily and without headache. Not to worry, it’s a part of the installation of how to install macOS Big Sur on VMware on Windows PC.
So before we head into it, I’ll try to cover what’s VMware Tools in a quick not long and what does it do and how it enhances a machine.
What is VMware Tools
VMware Tools is a set or we can also call collection of tools combined or merged into one tool called VMware Tools which does a handful of things and also enhances the overall speed and performance of the machine. Aside from it, whenever you install an operating system like Windows, we definitely need to install drivers and in some point, sometimes, it doesn’t even have ethernet driver so we will need to install to use it or maybe even it’s sometimes not possible to use it without.
But that’s not the case here because we can use it but it would be definitely far much better. With VMware, it’s similar to that. So what we do in here is we will install VMware Tools which comes with VMware itself without the need to download it. But sometimes it isn’t like that, so you will need to download it but its not a big issue and also not the installation is.
The VMware Tools provides a set of features, things and improvements that includes but are not limited to, screen resolution, sound, network, graphics, speed, drag, and drop more. From here, we will move into install VMware Tools on macOS Big Sur.
First, without doing anything, from the top, click on the Apple logo and click Shut Down. Then again Shut down when the pop up appears on the screen.
Connect macOS Big Sur’s VMware Tools To The VM
Now open the machine Settings.
And from the CD/DVD tab, click on Browse and choose the VMware Tools of Big Sur. Doing so, make sure you have checked the Connected and Connect at power on.
Once that’s done, click on OK.
Install VMware Tools
Now without doing anything, first power on the machine and once it’s up completely, click on Player > Manage then Install VMware Tools.
On the window that appears, open it.
Then on the wizard, click on Continue.
Then click on Install.
Enter your username and password then click Install Software.
Allow VMware Tools from Security Settings
When this window appeared, click on Open Security Preferences.
After its up, unlock the window from the bottom and enter your credential.
Then click on Allow button which appears in front of it.
So check the VMware, Inc and hit OK. In the meantime, you may receive the error pop up, but don’t get disctrced with them and don’t click on those, simply follow what I do here.
When it prompted you to restart, simply click Not Now then close the settings window.
Lastly, click Restart on the VMware Tools wizard and that’s all to there it is.
After restarting, if the error pops up again like this, you may reinstall the VMware Tools with the above steps, so it will work perfectly fine.
Once the machine is up, you will notice the screen that will be responsive and very smooth. After you have logged in, click on the full-screen icon and it should take you to the full screen without any problem.
And here we have the most beautiful and most gorgeous operating system with its wallpaper with us. To check the size of your screen, head over to the Apple icon from the top left corner, and select System details. Then it will appear then click on Displays.
With that said, the complete installation comes to the end, and there’s nothing more left to do. But there are always room to do more and to improve things up, like install macOS Big Sur on VirtualBox, change wallpapers, and more.
