Before getting start to this process make sure that both your Windows and macOS computer network are working properly. And one of the most important guide is your Windows PC should be updated. Sometimes it can be happen that while sharing files you should face any problem due to Windows is not updated to latest version.

As above I have mentioned for you what to do before sharing the files between macOS and Windows PC. Therefore, there are 5 easy steps you need to for sharing files between macOS and Windows PC.

  • Turn ON file sharing on your Mac PC.
  • Turn ON file sharing on your Windows PC.
  • Create a Share folder on the Windows desktop.
  • Use the IP config to find your Windows Computer IP address.
  • Connect to Windows computer from your Mac.

Step #1. Turn-ON/ Enable file sharing on your Mac PC.

To do this open your Mac computer, then on top left-handed of computer. Click on the Apple logo, then select “System preferences”. After that, the system preferences window opened you will see the sharing folder, go ahead click on that.

There you have to check-mark the file sharing option. And make sure that the file-sharing option is selected. Then you also click on Options… to check the Share files and folders using SMB is enabled. And also check the Windows files sharing option too. After that, click Done enter the Username password and again click OK.

Step #2. Turn ON file sharing on Windows PC.

To this setting turn on your Windows PC. Then go ahead click on the Windows start menu button, then click on Windows setting button. And click on Network & Internet.

After that, you clicked on Network & Internet and Network status opened, go ahead and click on the “Sharing Options”.

Change sharing options for different network profiles: Make sure that “Turn on network discovery”, “Turn on automatic setup of network-connected devices. On file and printer sharing also, “Tun on file and printer sharing” on.

Step #3. Create a Share folder on Windows.

However, you are in the step of creating a folder on Windows PC. Therefore, creating the exact folder on Windows PC desktop is important, while sharing files, documents from macOS to Windows. The files will directly transfer to the created sharing folder, which created by you.

Once you have created a sharing folder, therefore, you need to customize the properties of the folder. Right-click on sharing folder then select Properties. Customization for properties of sharing folder will access directly to for sharing files of macOS to Windows PC.

After that, the properties are opened to select “Sharing” from the top menu. And click on “Advanced sharing…”.

Now you opened the “Advanced sharing” option, therefore, mark “Share this folder”. And come down click on permission, here you will access the sharing option between Windows and macOS in the same network using Wifi. On the “Share permission” for everyone to check the box of “Change” and “Read” and click Apply OK.

Step #4. Use the IP config to find your Windows computer IP Address.

In this step, you are going to find the IP address of Windows PC. So that you should find Windows and macOS machine using the same IP address.

However, launch your Windows PC then go ahead click on the Windows start menu button. And type or search for Command prompt “CMD”. And press the enter key to open command prompt window.

After that, command prompt opened type there “ipconfig” and press the enter key.

After pressing the enter key the below list of WiFi IP address will appear. Therefore, you have to choose the recommended one, the IPV4 Address.

Note: Use your IP address as shown in IPCONFIG.

Step #5. Connect to Windows computer from your Mac.

Now you are the last step, for that you have to connect to Windows from your Mac. After this step, you will be able to start sharing the files between macOS and Windows PC.

Navigate to macOS and on top left-handed click on Go, come down click on “Connect to server” or use the shortcut key “Command plus K key”. Connecting two computers using one server or IP address at the same, to share files we took the WiFi network. And now we are going to configure the same IP address of Windows PC network with macOS network in one server.

Now the server address of macOS has been opened. Therefore, on the first blank tab, type “smb://192.168.0.169″ this is the IP address of my Windows PC, and you have to type yours. After typing the IP Address the “Connect” option automatically will appear to click on that.

Once you have done the IP address configuration on macOS window. Then again another login screen will appear, therefore, you will be asked to enter your name and password for the server.

Connect As:

  • Guest
  • Registered User
  • Our both macOS and Windows is registered to the same IP address through the WiFi network. In that case, we need to choose the “Registered User”.

In this step, you will ask to select the volumes you want to mount on. Because we had created a folder on Windows PC desktop, then we have to select that folder. After that, the sharing folder will appear in the macOS desktop window. Now you can start sharing files between macOS and Windows PC through the folder by using a WiFi network.
