Update VMware Workstation: If you want to want to update macOS to the latest version. Be sure that your VMware Workstation is updated. Also, if you are using Windows 10 new release update then, the VMware Workstation is not compatible with that version. Or if you are not using the latest version open your browser download the latest one. Also, you can update VMware on its on App.
Open the VMware Workstation official site, download the latest version. Which is now available in version Build 15.5.1 then install it on your PC. Also, there is the second option that you can update your old VMware version to the latest one. Open the VMware Workstation/VMware Player, then click on the “Help” tab and click “Software Updates”. If the update exists it will automatically download the update and install.

Customize and Edit VMX file of macOS Catalina 10.15
Open the folder of the macOS Catalina virtual machine to edit the VMX file. You might specify the place where you install macOS Catalina, again if you didn’t find that the location is Document>Virtual machines. And finally when you found right-click on VMX file then open with notepad. Also, completely close the VMware Workstation before editing the VMX file.

Now open VMware Workstation and launch the macOS Catalina.

Power on the virtual machine
Once the macOS Catalina window appeared then navigate to Mac App Store. Then download the new version of macOS Catalina. Once the download is completed the installer automatically starts installing. After the installation is completed virtual machine will restart.

If you are getting sure the macOS Catalina is running properly on VirtualBox. After that, you can upgrade macOS Catalina on VirtualBox to the latest version. Before getting started to update firstly, close or turn off the macOS Catalina if it is already running on VirtualBox.
Download Update image, once the download is complete. Then Select the macOS Catalina virtual machine then click on “Setting”.

Open the Mac App Store and in the search bar type “macOS Catalina” then hit enter, after that, click Get.

After clicking Get wait a while until the macOS Catalina download button prompts up, then you have to click on the blue download button.

macOS Catalina update file is 8.1GB, then you need to have a nice internet connection for downloading. Once macOS Catalina latest update downloaded click restart button, to restart the virtual machine.

Downloading the updates
- Once the update completely downloaded, for the installation it needs to restart. After that, on the black screen windows press Esc key to open UEFI shell screen. And type Fs1:\update.nsh then press enter.
- Now you are ready to use macOS Catalina’s latest version on VirtualBox.
